ExperienceCongratulations to all of my students but especially Brigid, who received a 2400 and Christian who received a 2390 on the January 2015 test!!
With almost 10,000 hours of tutoring, I ensure that I connect with students at their level to help them to reach their goals, whether it be in test prep or admissions coaching. My successes are numerous, with many students attaining a perfect score on their exams, including 6 in the past 2 years!
We review the most often tested concepts in detail and practice them until you're confident that you "get them". We cover test taking strategies and develop your OWN strategies that highlight your strengths and minimize your weaknesses. All of this is done to reduce your anxiety. By building your skills in each area of the tests, we build confidence and maximize your score...all while using official test preparation material College Board, ACT, ETS, etc.
I demonstrate how the tests work, help you isolate and improve your weaknesses, and develop a program to raise your baseline score. You will learn the format and scoring of the exam and how you can use these to your advantage, as well as the best test-taking strategies and tactics for each section of the exam.
In fact, I have taken the SAT and ACT over the past few years so that I know the patterns and that the strategies work!
I have also been an SAT Essay Reader and will provide you with a killer essay template designed to get you a double-digit essay score.
Currently, all of my students tutor online which is an efficient and effective way to tutor for standardized tests. I DO tutor in person, however, at a slightly higher rate to allow for travel. We can meet in a mutually convenient place (library, coffee shop, community room, etc).
Want to save money on test prep? Get together with up to 3 friends. By forming a small group, you can encourage each other, help each other, and help you each to reach your peak. Small group tutoring can provide MOST of the benefits of individual tutoring, but at a discounted price.
I left corporate America to tutor. Corporate is more lucrative in dollars, but helping students enter the schools of their choice is more lucrative in spirit!
HobbiesTheater, silver smithing, comedies, biographies, travel (I've been to 139 countries). Laid back, serious about my work, but not about myself!

I worked with Miss Kay last year (junior year) to study for the SAT. I was able to raise my score from 1840 to 2070 in 10 weeks. I love that we were able to work via skype, especially since the winter was so bad. She is patient, funny, knowledgeable, and explains in a way that is easy to understand. Miss Kay has many exercises and practice worksheets on her Google Drive that she used to make sure that I understood everything. I highly recommend her for SAT tutoring.
Total waste of money; no accountability to parents. I hired Lisa to tutor my daughter for the SAT. Lisa pushed heavily for tutoring over skype, and wanted to make all appointments, etc, with my daughter directly. So I had very, very little contact with Lisa other than the initial interview. Lisa tutored my daughter for 6 months. I admit I was pretty clueless, and just assumed everything was going fine. I was never alerted to problems or lack of progress from Lisa. In the end, after six months of tutoring, my daughter did no better on the SAT than in her initial practice test. What a total waste of money and an unfortunate outcome for my daughter.
I worked with Lisa on a number of school projects including my junior thesis. She was patient, knowledgeable and really knows how to direct and edit, without writing for me. I believe that I have become a better writer through working with her. So, when I needed SAT tutoring, I came to her. We have been tutoring for a little more than 2 months and my practice scores in Reading and Writing have already increased by almost 240 points since my initial practice test. My math score is already quite high, but I think that using her techniques from Reading and Writing will help me to get those last few points.
Lisa is an excellent tutor. She is very patient and friendly. My son has a lot of respect for her. He has improved a lot in just few meetings and has shown interest to learn more literature. According to me this is a miracle. I never thought my son would ever fall in love with literature. Thanks to Lisa. I would highly recommend her to everyone.
Lisa was fantastic. We needed help right away and she was able to fit us into her schedule. We loved using Skype, and within just 9 tutoring sessions she was able to give us the information we needed to raise our scores by nearly 200 points. Most importantly she was pleasant to work with, we never felt pressured, and she was always professional. We would definitely contact her again if we need a tutor. Thank you Lisa!
Lisa was able to start working with my son almost immediately. Even when she went on vacation, she worked with him via SKYPE. He had taken a "big box" tutoring class and his score went DOWN from his previous score. Lisa has found the "thing" that makes him "get it". His diagnostic test gave her insight into where he was not doing well, and, although they spend a lot of time working on those areas she doesn't let the other areas slip. I have a daughter who is starting her junior year, and I will have her work with Lisa and her "coach approach" this year.
I've just begun working with Lisa, but we have met 5 times thus far. She has me on a great schedule, working on my weaknesses, charting progress...a lot like my swimming coach. That's one of the reasons that I chose her. After she explained how she works, I knew that I could work with her. She is a coach as well as a tutor and uses coaching techniques in her work. Off to do some homework!
I needed emergency tutoring for the June 9th ACT exam. Lisa met with me every day from the day I contacted her until the Thursday before the exam to tutor me in the areas in which I stunk (or is it stank? LOL!). She set a plan for me, set expectations and expected me to keep them. She had problems for me to do until boredom hit (she says that when you're bored with them, then you know that you know how to do them...I'd say she's correct!). I went into the ACT feeling confident and secure. I have already signed up with her for her summer SAT tutoring to get ready to raise my SAT score. She showed me her process, her strategies and her tactics and I'm confident that I will only have to take the SAT a total of 2 times!! Whoo hoo!
